Karate-do
Translates to “empty hand way” of self defence. A student will learn various blocks, strikes, kicks, punches and stances to enable them to defend themselves in many situations. Through physical training students will learn how to co-ordinate their bodies, mind and spirit. In karate-do students will learn self-discipline, self confidence and self esteem which will help them in their everyday lives. The style of karate do is Shotokan which is practiced all over the world with its origins lying in Japan.
Kata Classes
The kata of karate do are logical arrangements of blocking, punching, striking and kicking techniques in certain set sequences designed to defend against either single or multiple opponents who may or may not be armed. In all there are 26 Kata practiced which students will learn throughout their training. By the time a student is ready to grade for black belt they will be required to master the first 10 kata.
Karate Trio Team Kata
New to Ettingshausen’s Dynamic Arts in 2008, this class is designed for students who want to towards Team Kata events for tournaments and competitions. Students work to develop Kata skills learnt in regular classes and perform them in unison, as part of a team.
Martial Arts Stretch
New to Ettingshausen’s Dynamic Arts in 2008, this class is specifically designed to develop flexibility and strength for martial arts students which is certainly an advantage in preparation for grading and competition.
Ground Work Class
An optional class for students Yellow Belt and above, this class is especially beneficial in preparation for grading. Students are provided with extra tuition focusing on techniques which may include various holds, cross body control, Kata application, side boy control and several throws. Not only will it boost confidence for gradings and competitions but will also be an advantage for students wanting to perfect their techniques when defending themselves from a ground position.
