WEEK 10 of 10 - TERM 30 JUNE 2008

FRIENDLY LINK - PERFORMING ARTS/CLASSICAL BALLET

EDA – mid year merchandise sale is on now!!!
HURRY – LAST DAYS
(Limited sizes and styles available)

EDA Café: For all those parents who realized last week that their cappuccino and chai latte cravings could not be fulfilled without a drive to McCafe I have some sad news, the EDA café will be intermittently open over the next two weeks and then will be closing.  We would like to thank Teresa Campbell for doing a wonderful job and over the past three months turning it into a buzzing little café. However, unfortunately this job became too much for one person and Teresa has decided to move on. EDA apologises for any inconvenience caused by this.  We are currently looking into vending machines as an alternative to enable students to obtain refreshments during class breaks.

EDA Admin Opening Hours during Week 1 and 2 of July School Holidays: will be 9am to 12.30pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 1 and Week 2 for payment of Term Fees.

EDA Saturday ‘front sliding door’:  please note the front sliding exit/entry door will be locked from 12pm on Saturdays only.  Students and parents can exit and enter, on Saturdays pm, from the side entry door of the Studio.

Performing Arts eisteddfod/end of year concert costumes:  A few parents have expressed their concerns about the rising costs of costuming so I would like to take this chance to explain the situation to everyone.  A competition class costume note was given out earlier this year explaining that costumes would cost up to $100.  This was based on the fact that all our costumes are carefully designed to enhance the routine and flatter the children’s figures (that is, no really skimpy or revealing costumes such as bra tops and hot pants which require very limited fabric, design or sewing) therefore our costumes require more design and fabric.  We also referred to the last years costume costs, to calculate a guide in advance, of an estimated average costume price, which came out at $80.  As of 2008 we no longer have any hobby home sewers (which in the past kept prices down), all our sewers have registered businesses, provide us with an ABN, and are subject to all the regular business costs.  On top of the $80 we added an EDA administration fee of $10 to cover, liasing with dressmakers, parents, suppliers, collecting and recording deposits and balances, and personally phoning clients to chase up the outstanding money so dressmakers can be paid on time.  On top of this we are required by the ATO to charge GST which was approximated at $10.  This is how we arrived at the costume guide of $100.

We would like to apologise for those costumes that have exceeded this guide amount and would like to reassure you that any remaining costumes this year, will be simplified to adhere to the guide price.  This will result in compromises in fabric choices and limited accessories however, this is a compromise that we are willing to make considering the current financial climate.  Again we are sorry for any extra financial pressure this has caused.
Miss Nat

Reminder………Queensland Showcase 2009 News….

Queensland Showcase 2009: accommodation sheet available at Reception.

There have been many questions recently asked about the finals in Queensland in January, so I will try to answer them as completely as possible.

Q. Which groups will go to Queensland?
All groups entered in the heats, 6years up to open age, will go to QLD.  We can also add an extra 5 groups to our heat placings.  These additional groups will be nominated after the heats are over. We will enter the maximum of 30 group entries.

Q. Are many students in my child’s class going to the Nationals?
The majority of students in each age group have said yes to going to QLD. Eg, In the 14years age tap group – only 3 students are unavailable out of 18.

Q. How do we know that our groups will successfully achieve a score high enough to make it to the Nationals?
I can not make any guarantees, I can only say that we have entered Showcase in 1997, 2001 and 2005 and each time all groups were successful except one in 1997. This was due to our error going over the 4 minute time limit in the tag (which is the exit) and we were given a 10 point deduction. Obviously we have not made the same mistake since and have made it through to the finals with all groups. I believe our school has improved in competitiveness and strength every year and we have awesome groups representing EDA in 2008.

Important - Grade Ballet Exam Students:

Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 Exam Ballet Students: will be required to undertake 4 day compulsory ballet seminars on Monday 14th July, Tuesday 15th July, Wednesday 16th July and Thursday 17th July (note new dates), 2nd week of the July school holidays.  As you can see we have decided to include the Grade 4 & 5 students in this series of seminars.  It is imperative that all students undertaking their grade ballet exams this year, attend these seminars to enable students to be well prepared to undertake their exams.

Miss Traynor’s  master coaching classes:  These classes are on Sunday mornings.  The next class will be on Sunday (this date will be confirmed 1st week back in Term 3) and provide specialised technique enhancement training by an exceptionally skilled an experienced teacher. I highly recommend them.  The classes will be held every second Sunday at 9.00am for senior students and at 10.00am for juniors.
